Children and staff at Kirkby Malham Primary School are able to access the Internet through the North Yorkshire County Council Learning Net.
The safety of children when using the Internet (E-Safety) is of paramount importance to our school and to North Yorkshire County Council.
The school suing a filtering system called Smoothwall to ensure that the sites accessed by children and staff are safe to use and that school management is immediately alerted if there has been any compromise to the system. Staff regularly monitor staff usage and sites are carefully chosen to be appropriate for primary school use.
We know that parents and guardians will also be concerned that children stay safe when using the Internet at home and elsewhere. There are many websites that offer advice to parents on the topic of 'keeping your child safe online' .

The BBC have a website and app called Own It. The website has a lot of content for children to help them navigate their online lives, and the free smartphone app comes with a special keyboard which can intervene with help and support in the moments that children need it the most.
