Class 2 had a super morning exploring Skipton Castle. What a fascinating place to explore with so many things to experience! It was amazing!
The children had a guided tour and learnt so many interesting pieces of historical information about the building and the people who have lived there over the years. The children were put in the dungeons! They visited the Great Hall ! They even shot arrows through the arrow slits and some of them sat on ‘the long drop’ !!!
It has been a wonderful day and the children were beautifully behaved and so engaged in their learning. Thank you to all who helped make this trip such a success
A Brief History of Skipton Castle, North Yorkshire

In the 14th century, the castle passed into the hands of the powerful Clifford family, who transformed it into a formidable stone fortress. Under the Cliffords, Skipton Castle played a prominent role in the Wars of the Roses, serving as a stronghold for the Lancastrian cause.

For our children in Class 2 , today, it provided a vivid glimpse of our local history and to step into a real life Castle and to experience first hand what it may have been like to have lived there. We are so fortunate to have this amazing historical resource on our doorstep and always try to capitalise on local opportunities to bring the curriculum alive for our children!
